Stop Consuming, Start Creating
A starting point
I've wanted to write online for a while - to have a public place to talk about the things I love, and to gently touch upon the things I don't. I find it hard to think properly if I'm not writing or talking, and there's a discipline in writing for an audience.
I used to send overwritten and self-absorbed travel updates to my family and friends, but in my 20s I had nothing to say which smarter people weren't saying better. Now it's different - I've had enough interesting experiences, and finally read enough books. It's all starting to overflow, if I may be so bold as to say so myself.
There are worse reasons too. Maybe it's hubris - but I'm getting bored of most writers in most newspapers. I'm reading article after article, and thinking 'I could do better than that.' But everyone's a critic, and that kind of criticizing is just another kind of consumption - an enjoyable sense of being outraged. Creating is much harder.
I guess I should read less news, or if I really think I can do better, put my money where my mouth is and start writing myself. And so here we are.
